Sgt Mike Battle: The Last Admin Hero

Evil organisation A.C.R.O.N.Y.M. has taken over section D, top secret military offices with stashed weapons and access to deadly weapon systems. Only one man can save the world from the terrorist plot, that man is not Sgt. Mike Battle, it is a John Trojan, admin assistant....The Last Admin Hero...

Sgt. Mike Battle is basically an extended satire against militaristic jingolism and cliched action movies. With such a wealth of material to lampoon, the comic is spoilt for choice of targets and aims at them all with extreme prejudice.

I've read Sgt. Mike Battle before and I think that it's come quite a long way. The humour is much more polished and thought out and funny and there's several chuckles not to mention gaffaws to be had in this series. It's certainly amusing enough to sustain you throughout with at least a couple of laugh out loud moments per issue. This title is particually good at turning action film cliches around to suit the comic - I particually love "When it comes to admin, just how good is this guy?" "He's the best!".

The artwork is functional, very comicy, but consistant and it's clear what is happening throughout. It's not the best I've ever seen, but, as a vehicle for getting the humour out it works just fine. In fairness, it has come a long way from the early comics and does improve all the time.

Ultimately, Sgt. Mike Battle is a good parody of gung-ho war movies and action films, but doesn't go beyond that in terms of message, in addition, the humour is unsubtle and easy to follow - therefore, its a no-brainer really, but what did you expect? Voltaire?

Summing Up:

Amusing parody comic, that doesn't go beyond its own boundaries, but has lots of good ideas and funny moments.
